Course Overview

Our MA is for composers, musicians, sound artists, sound and music practitioners from related fields including theatre, media and theorists with interests in music and sound. The course provides you with an opportunity to hone your unique creative identity. You’ll explore the cutting edge of contemporary music and music technology research. With us, you’ll develop your creative ability and advanced technical skills in composition and sound, through practical and theoretical work in music production. Our range and depth of teaching allows you to develop a portfolio of work, responding to your own strengths, interests and future plans. You’ll: - compose - work with cutting-edge music technologies - create music and sound design for film and moving image - critically evaluate music and sonic art. Our faculty’s field-leading professional expertise and artistry is unique in its scope across current developments in composition, performance, technologies, music for film, media and interactive arts of all kinds. You’ll have access to specialist facilities including: - three professional-standard recording studios - large range of microphones, synths, instruments and performance technologies - performance facilities, project studios and practice rooms - the Music Mac Lab and maker spaces - the Music Department’s recordings and scores collections. Our Department of Music is a major international centre for the study of contemporary music, contemporary musical thinking, creative music technologies, music theatre and music yet to come.
