Building on foundational knowledge in animal physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, and molecular and cellular biology, you will develop a critical understanding of the biological principles underpinning health and disease across a range of animal species, including livestock, companion animals, wildlife, birds, and display animals. Studying infectious and non-infectious diseases that are important in animal and public health, the course explains what causes these diseases, how they affect the body, and how they are diagnosed, monitored, treated, and prevented. You will evaluate advanced, modern veterinary diagnostic methods, including lab testing, disease surveillance, and new technologies, in clinical, research, and regulatory settings. Broader themes including animal nutrition, welfare, and behaviour are also explored, highlighting the role of bioveterinary science in food security, sustainability, and responsible animal management. In your fourth year, you will further enhance your employability and subject expertise through advanced problem-solving and communication skills, culminating in an extended research project.
