Course Overview

This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in developing control systems, machinery and equipment and wish to pursue a career in electrical engineering, communications, control systems, robotics or sensor system. Our degrees are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Measurement and Control. The BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree will provide you with a strong technical background in the key subjects of electronics, power engineering, signal processing and mechatronics, in conjunction with engineering management. It provides a solid foundation for anyone who wants to pursue a career at the cutting edge of technology, developing innovative solutions in areas like communications and robotics. We have been educating electrical and electronic engineers for almost 90 years. Our degrees are dual-accredited by professional bodies, meaning your qualification will be recognised for its quality and relevance. Furthermore, you will: - Learn from research-active academics working at the cutting-edge of their field - Develop highly relevant, in-demand skills thanks to industry involvement in our curriculum - Put your in-depth engineering knowledge into practice and apply your expertise to real-world problems with design projects at every stage of your studies - Gain hands-on experience with high-tech equipment in newly refurbished undergraduate and research labs, including chip production facilities and electrical power equipment - Take an optional work placement to boost your grades, employability and professional expertise - Pass your second year and apply to transfer to our integrated MEng degree, which fast tracks your progress to Chartered Engineer status. You can undertake a summer internship at the end of each academic year or opt to spend a year on an industry placement at the end of your third year - if you are on the MEng (Hons) route. Placements are paid, and are a fantastic way to gain professional experience in a relevant field as part of your degree. Undertaking a placement year could also count towards the experience requirement for a professional engineering qualification. In recent years Electrical and Electronic Engineering students have been able to obtain placements at leading companies within their chosen field such as TfL, Nissan, Gamma, G2 Energy, Interserve, AECOM and Network Rail. This degree provides a solid foundation for people wishing to pursue a career in electrical engineering, communications, control systems, robotics or sensor systems. Recent graduates have joined employers such as UK Power Networks, BT, National Grid, AECOM, BP, Huawei, British Aerospace and DeltaRail."
