BSc (Hons.) Biomedical Sciences

The Biomedical Science (BSc) Hons is a full-time undergraduate program offered by the University of Brighton with an integrated placement year option. The program aims to provide an in-depth understanding of disease processes and prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to pursue a career in biomedical science or postgraduate study.Course Content: The three-year program includes three important stages. Stage 1 covers the fundamental aspects of cell biology, anatomy, physiology, molecular biology and genetics and allows students to gain a wide view of the biomedical sciences. Stage 2 extends this knowledge and applies it to understanding disease processes. Key themes explored include pathology, microbiology, and pharmacology. Stage 3 provides the opportunity for students to carry out a research project in an area of biomedical science that interests them, along with studying advanced aspects of disease.Key Modules: Some of the important modules include Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Microbiology, Human Nutrition, Principles of Pharmacology, Human Molecular Genetics, Pathophysiology and Therapeutics, Biomedical Science Research Project, along with several others.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and the Royal Society of Biology (RSB). The IBMS accreditation allows graduates to apply for registration as a biomedical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a requirement for employment in NHS laboratories.Future Careers: Graduates of Biomedical Science BSc(Hons) have the potential to pursue careers in hospital laboratories, research institutes, health protection agencies, scientific journalism, and health and safety agencies.
