The BSc Medicinal Chemistry course at the University of East Anglia is an exceptional program designed to provide students with a rich understanding of the medicinal chemistry of therapeutically active compounds. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, this course combines biology, chemistry, and pharmacology to explore the design and action of therapeutic drugs, as well as the creation of diagnostic agents used in medical imaging.Course Content: Throughout the course, students will study a range of topics including molecular cell biology, chemical reactivity, organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, molecular modelling and drug design. The course also includes laboratory practicals, development of professional skills and optional modules allowing students to specialize based on their interests.Key Modules: Some of the core modules for this course are Biomolecules, Functional Properties of Drugs, Organic and Biological Chemistry, Fundamentals of Chemical Reactivity, Molecular Modelling and Drug Action and in the final year, students undertake an independent research project.Accreditations: The BSc Medicinal Chemistry course is fully accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. This gives some graduates Direct Admission to the professional grade of Affiliate Member and after appropriate experience as Associate Member, and can help students build a professional network in the field of chemistry.Future Careers: After finishing the course, students can pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry or further study. Other areas where students can find opportunities include chemical and related industries, research institutions, teaching, patent law, environmental monitoring, and forensic science amongst others.
