BA (Hons) English Literature and Drama

The BA in English Literature and Drama is a full-time undergraduate course offered by the University of East Anglia. Combining the study of dramatic literature with practical performance, the course encourages students to become creators of theatre, not just spectators. Learners will engage with a wide range of literary texts from medieval times to the contemporary period.Course Content: The course comprises the study of English literature and drama, allowing students to explore text and performance across a wide range of periods and genres. From studying medieval mystery plays to gender and power in Renaissance drama, and from innovations in contemporary playwriting to the literature of the Jazz Age, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of English literature and drama. Practical elements of the course will include opportunities to write, direct and perform in plays.Key Modules: Key modules of the course include Understanding Theatre, Literature in History, Performance and Practice, Medieval Literature, Shakespeare, and Modern Philosophy amongst others. The course also entails a dissertation in the final year, with options to write a traditional dissertation or create a practical project.Future Careers: Upon completion, students are well-equipped for careers not only in theatre and the arts but also in fields such as teaching, arts administration, journalism, marketing, and publishing among other sectors.
