The BSc (Hons) Physiology and Pharmacology course offered by The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is a unique programme that combines the study of disease processes and drug action. It equips students with deep knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of drug action and disease processes at the cellular, tissue, organ and whole body levels.Course Content: The programme delivers an integrated understanding of human physiology and pharmacological principles, contextualized in the basis of disease processes. It covers areas such as haematology, immunology, the nervous system and the cardiovascular system. Furthermore, the course extends to the principles of drug design and medicinal chemistry, explorations of the actions of drugs on body systems and disease processes, and the advances in therapeutic approaches.Key Modules: Some of the key modules studied over the duration of the course are Human Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Pharmacology, Medical Physiology, Integrated Pharmacology, Molecular and Cellular Therapeutics and Research Project. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates from this programme are well-prepared for careers in pharmacological research, the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory bodies, hospital laboratories, health charities and higher education. Some choose postgraduate study in pharmacology or related subjects or careers in teaching and scientific writing. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page here.
