The BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies course at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) combines theoretical aspects of aerospace and mechanical engineering with practical flight training. This course qualifies students to design, analyse, test and flight-certify aircraft. This course also provides students with the opportunity to acquire a Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) and the possibility of obtaining other categories of Civil Aviation Authority flying qualifications including aerobatics, instrument rating, and ATPL theory subjects.Course Content: The course includes theoretical studies of aerospace and mechanical engineering concepts, along with individual and group projects. The course also incorporates flight training, where students will undergo pilot training and flight tests. Practical flying experince will be facilitated at an awarded flying school which will lead to a PPL and the possibility to complete a Night Rating qualification, an Aerobatics Certificate, plus taking theory exams to obtain ATPL credits. Key Modules: Some key modules include Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Flight Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Aircraft Systems, Computer Aided Engineering, Aeroelasticity, Flight Simulation, and Advanced Flight Concepts.Accreditations: It is accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: Graduates from this course can find opportunities in an array of fields such as aerospace and defence companies, airline operators, aviation regulation and government offices, along with roles in independent design and testing agencies. This course also prepares students for further study or research in aerospace engineering. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
