MSc Microbiology and Infection

The MSc in Microbiology and Infection at the University of Birmingham is a full-time, one-year course designed to train students in the study of infectious diseases. It combines teaching on the molecular and cellular biology of microbial pathogens with clinical and epidemiological aspects of infectious diseases.Course Content: This course was designed with the assistance of leading microbiologists working in the NHS and Public Health England to provide training in microbiology with bias towards infectious diseases and biomedical sciences. You will have an opportunity to study the mechanisms of bacterial, fungal, parasite and viral infections. Key Modules: Some of the key modules include Bacterial, Protozoan and Fungal Infections Part A: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Viral Infections, and Molecular Diagnosis and Therapeutics in Infectious Diseases among others.Accreditations: This course is recognised by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates of this course will be well equipped for future careers in various fields including PhD studentships, biomedical science, biotechnology, business and research roles in academia or the pharmaceutical industry.For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
