The BSc (Hons) Child Nursing course offered by the University of Birmingham aims to educate students to become thoughtful, adaptable, innovative and intellectual healthcare professionals. This course allows students to understand the joys and challenges of working with children, young people, and their families in different healthcare settings, including at home.Course Content: The course is designed to cater to the specific needs of children, merging theory with nursing practice to build a solid foundation for child nursing. Theoretical study and clinical practice are divided equally, with 50% of the time each year being spent in healthcare placements. Alongside fulfilling clinical placements, students will delve into key subjects such as anatomy, physiology, behavioural sciences, and nursing sciences.Key Modules: Modules include Introduction to Child Health, Nursing and Professional Values, Evidence-based Practice, and Leadership and Management for Child Health.Accreditations: The course is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This approval will allow successful graduates to register and practice as a Nurse in Child Health.Future Careers: Upon successful completion of the course, students can pursue careers as Registered Child Nurses. It opens up opportunities in several healthcare settings such as community services, pregnancy care units, intensive care units, and health visiting teams.
