BEng Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering BEng course offered at the University of Birmingham is a three-year programme built to develop your knowledge and skills to meet the demands of today’s civil engineering industry. The course is designed for students who aspire to become incorporated engineers and wish to work in consultancy and contracting in the civil engineering sector.Course Content: The curriculum comprises core engineering principles and technologies, such as soil mechanics and design, structural design, and hydraulics. Students will have the chance to put lessons into practice, using the skills they have learned to solve complex engineering problems. Key Modules: Some of the major modules that students may study include Structural Mechanics, Geology for Civil Engineers, Design of Structural Elements, Soil Mechanics, Transport Engineering and Planning, and Construction Management.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) (comprising ICE, IStructE, CIHT, and IHIE), as fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).Future Careers: After graduating from this programme, students can enter a variety of jobs tied to the areas of civil engineering, such as construction, transport and the environment. Graduates have found work at reputable companies including Atkins, Costain, and Network Rail.
