BDS Dental Surgery

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course offered by the University of Birmingham is a five-year undergraduate study programme. It provides students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of dental surgery and it integrates scientific comprehension with the necessary practical skills.Course Content: The BDS course at the University of Birmingham is divided into three primary sections: Foundation of Primary Care, Pathways to Disease, and Oral Health and Disease. In the first three years, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of medical sciences and patient care. From the third year onward, the focus progressively shifts towards specialised dental topics, such as oral biology, pathology, and disease.Key Modules: The key modules of the BDS programme include Human Anatomy, Basic Health Care, Medical Microbiology, Restorative Dentistry, Dental Conservation, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, and Paediatric Dentistry. Furthermore, students will have clinical placements from the third year onwards which will offer valuable hands-on experience in managing patients.Accreditations: The BDS course at the University of Birmingham is fully accredited by the General Dental Council (GDC) and on successful completion of the course, graduates can register with the GDC and commence practicing dentistry.Future Careers: Upon graduating, students can pursue a rewarding career in dentistry.
