The Anthropology and African Studies programme at the University of Birmingham is a joint honours degree that allows students to study and understand both the cultures of the world and specifically those of Africa. By combining these subjects, students will gain an in-depth and complex understanding of human society and culture.Course Content: This course focuses on understanding and exploring the complexity and diversity of human social and cultural life. A variety of modules are offered that investigate key anthropological topics such as kinship, religion, art, oral literature, politics, and development, in a wide range of African settings.Key Modules: The course comprises of several core and optional modules. Key modules include Introduction to Social Anthropology, Anthropology: Truth and Lies, Anthropology of Religion, Anthropology of Politics and Power, Advanced Topics in Social Anthropology, and a variety of African Studies themed modules such as Introduction to African Culture, African History and Politics, Religion in Africa, and African Popular Culture.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the University of Birmingham and leads to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.Future Careers: After completion of this course, students can look forward to a range of career opportunities. They will be particularly equipped for roles in international organizations, media and journalism, community and social services, teaching, marketing, and the civil service.
