The course on History and Ancient History at the University of Birmingham provides students with an opportunity to explore histories ranging from the Ancient Near East to the Modern Middle East. The course offers students a strong understanding of the global historical context and skills that will make them very attractive to prospective employers.Course Content: The four-year course enables students to study the ancient history in their first and second years. The third year includes a 'year abroad' at one of the partner universities. The final year will conclude with an in-depth study of a special subject and a dissertation. The course provides numerous opportunities for first-hand experience of historical sites and archives.Key Modules: Modules cover a wide range of topics including, introduction to the cultural heritage of Europe from the ancient times to the present, introduction to Greek and Roman history, Greek and Roman Empires: comparative perspectives, and dissertation in history and /or civilization, thought, and ideas.Future Careers: The course equips students with transferable skills such as the ability to research issues thoroughly; to analyze complex texts; to construct and defend an argument; and to express oneself cogently in speech and in writing.
