The Psychological Research Methods with Data Science MSc at the University of Sheffield is a one-year, full-time course designed to train students in the statistical and computational techniques used in data-intensive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Course Content: The first semester focuses on fundamentals, including programming and statistics. In the second semester, students will learn how to use popular statistical machine learning packages, spatial statistics for imaging data and mechanistic modelling of behavioural and neural data. The course finishes with a guaranteed research project over the summer.Key Modules: They include – Python for Psychologists, Research Design and Analysis, Statistical Modelling, Computational Modelling of Mental Processes, Image Analysis with Python, Data Mining and Visualisation with Python, Mechanistic Models of Brain and Behaviour, Research Project in Psychology.Accreditations: This programme is designed to satisfy the Research Scientist requirements of the British Psychological Society (BPS). It confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) which is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.Future Careers: Upon completion of the course, students will be expertly equipped to conduct and evaluate psychological studies using diverse data types and complex statistical techniques. Graduates can seek careers in academic research, particularly in psychology or related disciplines requiring data science skills. Other job opportunities include roles as behavioural data scientists, analysis, human-computer interaction specialists, and more. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
