The Materials Science and Engineering MEng course at the University of Sheffield is a full-time, four-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to develop new materials and improve existing ones. The course provides students with a broad and comprehensive understanding of materials science and engineering, enabling them to analyze, develop, and optimize materials in engineering systems.Course Content: In the first and second years, students learn about the structure and mechanical behavior of materials, and how these can be changed. The course explores processing, design, and selection, and there is a major optional group project. In the third and fourth years, students are equipped with the knowledge necessary to understand and develop materials for advanced applications and for sustainable processes.Key Modules: Key modules in the course include Introduction to Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Processing and Design, Materials for Energy Applications, Biomaterials and Applications, and Materials Selection and Sustainability. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). Future Careers: This course prepares students for careers in a variety of industries such as energy, medicine, transport, and sports equipment. Materials science graduates are particularly sought after in industries where the technology is evolving rapidly. Many of our graduates go into research, either in industry or at a university. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page: Materials Science and Engineering MEng.
