The Civil Engineering with Industrial Placement Year MEng Program at the University of Sheffield is a four-year undergraduate course that offers students the opportunity to gain a strong foundation in core civil engineering disciplines while spending a year working in the industry. It will allow students to apply their theoretical learning in a professional environment.Course Content: The course comprises three stages. The first-year introduces students to the broad base of skills and knowledge fundamental to civil engineering. The subsequent two years deepen the understanding of specialized subject areas, including structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and fluid mechanics, infrastructure planning and environmental engineering. The final stage is focused on an industrial placement year. During the placement, responsibilities could range from site-based activity to tender production, use of Building Information Modelling, and broader project management tasks.Key Modules: Some of the key modules of the program include Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics, Civil Engineering Laboratory I & II, Advanced Structural Analysis and Design, Geotechnical Engineering, and Infrastructure Planning and Management.Accreditations: The program is fully accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) as fully satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng).Future Careers: Graduates from this course are equipped to work in various roles within the engineering sector, including in civil engineering consultancy firms and construction companies. They may also work in government organizations and non-governmental organizations dealing with infrastructure planning and development. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
