The Medicine MBChB course offered by the University of Sheffield is a six-year course that aims to develop students into skilled, competent, and professional medical practitioners. The first two phases introduce the basic sciences underlying medicine and the clinical skills needed. These phases are based around a series of clinical scenarios linked to the body systems which provide the context on which to learn the sciences basic to medicine. The final phase involves a series of clinical placements at hospitals and General Practices across the region, to gain an understanding of the different specialties and to consolidate the learning from the first two phases.Key Modules: Key modules covered in this course include Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology, Pathogenesis of Disease, Principles of Drug Action, and Clinical Practice. There is also a focus on professional development and the key skills required to practice medicine ethically and effectively.Accreditations: On successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and will be eligible to register with the General Medical Council (GMC).Future Careers: This course prepares students for a vast range of medical careers, from general practice and psychiatry, through to surgery and medical research.
