The Urban Design and Planning MA at the University of Sheffield is a comprehensive course that is designed to equip students to become competent urban designers and to help them influence urban design policy and practices. This one-year full-time degree course offers a broad spectrum of topics, covering the fields of urban design, property development and planning theory and practice. Course Content: The course primarily falls under two categories: Autumn Semester modules which cover Sustainable Master Planning, Urban Design History and Theory, Designing the City modules. Spring Semester modules which cover Property Development and Urban Planning Economics, Comparative Planning Practices in Europe, etc. The course concludes with a three-month master’s dissertation project where students work on individual research on an urban design theme of their own choice.Key Modules: Some of the key modules in this course include Urban Design History and Theory, Designing the City, Reflexive Urban Design, Introduction to Property Development and Urban Planning Economics, Comparative Planning Practices in Europe, and Environment and Planning.Accreditations: The course is fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute and it provides a fast-track route to membership for graduates of a CRTP-accredited bachelor's degree.Future Careers: The course provides key skills and knowledge needed for careers in urban design and planning, property development, planning policy and consultancy on design standards.
