Beng Materials Science and Engineering

The Materials Science and Engineering BEng course at the University of Sheffield is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of natural and synthetic materials and their impact on civilization. Students will learn how to design and engineer new materials through a combination of scientific understanding, creativity, and use of computational and analytical tools.Course Content: The course content covers the principles of materials science, surface science, ceramics, polymers, metals, and composites. Along with this, you'll gain an understanding of the processes used in manufacturing the materials: casting, deformation, annealing, and hardening. The program also includes a master project to test your theory and practical skills.Key Modules: The course comprises key modules such as Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Thermodynamics, Phase Transformations and Heat Treatment, Materials Processes and Characterization, Materials Selection and Failure Analysis, Principles of Ceramics, Principles of Polymers, and Control Systems and Programming.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.
