The Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Industrial Placement Year) BEng course at the University of Sheffield combines core understanding of electrical and electronic engineering theory with practical exercises and year-long industrial placement. The course ensures students gain practical, real-world experience in their chosen fields, enhancing employability upon graduation.Course Content: The course structure consists of fundamental subjects during the first year which forms the base. From the second year, students gain in-depth knowledge about electrical machines, digital and analogue electronics, and control and microprocessors. During the third year, students undertake an industrial placement. In the final year, students work with one or two other students on the project of their choice. They learn to research, plan, manage resources and lead on a project, just as an engineer does in industry.Key Modules: Important modules include Mathematics, Circuit Theory, Digital and Embedded Systems, Control and Communications Engineering, Electronic and Photonic Material, and Power Engineering. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of partially, meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: Graduates from this course are working in industrial and commercial sectors such as power generation, renewable energy, telecommunications, transport networks, construction, consulting, and IT.
