The BEng Civil Engineering with Industrial Placement Year course offered by the University of Sheffield aims to establish foundational academic knowledge and technical expertise in the field of civil engineering. The course also provides students with an additional year-long industrial placement to gain real-world experience, enhancing their professional skills.Course Content: The course offers a comprehensive syllabus covering fundamental concepts of structural mechanics, geographic information systems (GIS), geomatics, geology and soil mechanics, and construction management and technology. In addition, students will also engage in a widespread study of fluid mechanics, building materials, transport, sustainability, and water engineering. Key Modules: Most notably, the course is composed of modules each year, including Civil Engineering Field Course, Structural Analysis, and Design, Ground Engineering, Hydraulics, Numerical Skills and Computing, Engineering Surveying, and Engineering Modelling and Analysis.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and partly meeting the academic requirement for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) as well.Future Careers: After successful completion, students can pursue careers in construction, transport, environmental sectors, or housing and utilities sectors.
