The Aerospace Engineering with Private Pilot Instruction, BEng is a specialized course offered by the University of Sheffield that combines traditional aerospace engineering with aspects of pilot training. The program is designed to equip students with a thorough understanding of the principles of flight, control systems, and aircraft structures, complemented with private pilot instruction.Course Content: The course spans over a period of four years, comprising of theoretical knowledge enriched with practical experience. Students are introduced to fundamental engineering topics in the first two years. By the third year, the curriculum focuses more intensely on aerospace, with an inclusion of a project that involves designing, building, and testing an unmanned aircraft. The final year lectures expand on knowledge regarding flight dynamics, control, propulsion systems, and aerospace structures, with an additional individual investigative project. Key Modules: Some prominent modules in this course are Mathematics, Thermofluids, Computational and Experimental Methods, Control Systems, Design and Manufacture, Aerospace Technology and Management, Aerospace Propulsion, Flight Mechanics, and Private Pilot Instruction.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), which provides a path to gain Chartered Engineer Status.Future Careers: Graduates have a diverse range of career opportunities. They can work in aerospace industries such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus, and Boeing or in automotive, energy, railway industries, etc. Many graduates also pursue careers in research or move towards further studies. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
