BA Politics and Modern Languages & Cultures

  • Description

The Politics and Modern Languages and Cultures BA course offered by the University of Sheffield is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the global cultural and political landscape. The course allows students to combine the study of politics with any of four modern languages and their cultures: French, German, Russian, or Spanish.

Course Content: During the three-year degree program, students will study key political theories and apply them to current events, as well as immerse themselves in a chosen language, both linguistically and culturally. Through a mix of lectures, seminars, and language classes, students will develop strong political understanding and language skills. In addition, they have the opportunity to spend a year abroad, enhancing their language proficiency and cultural awareness.

Key Modules: While the specific modules vary depending on the chosen language, students will study a combination of core and optional modules covering areas such as political theory, international relations, contemporary politics, politics and governance in the EU, and the language, culture, and history of the chosen language.

Future Careers: Graduates of the course can go on to various careers in areas such as diplomacy, education, translation, international development, or the civil service. They can also pursue further study or research. The University of Sheffield provides careers advice and opportunities for internships and placements to help students prepare for their future careers.
