BA Japanese Studies

The Japanese Studies BA at the University of Sheffield aims to immerse students in Japanese language and culture. Throughout the course, students gain a deep understanding of the history, society, and politics of Japan, whilst also developing their language abilities for competent oral and written communication in Japanese. Course Content: The course curriculum is broad and flexible with a dual emphasis on Japanese language proficiency and familiarity with Japan's culture, society, and history. The course contains modules featuring themes such as Popular Culture, Modern Literature, Traditional Culture, Society and Politics, among others. Key Modules: Key study modules cover a wide range of subjects including: Core Japanese Language, Advanced Japanese, Contemporary Japan: Society and Culture, and a Dissertation in Japanese Studies. Accreditations: This course isn't directly accredited but the degree includes a compulsory year studying or working in Japan, which enhances students' future employability.Future Careers: Graduates from this course typically venture into various careers in fields such as translation and interpretation, international business, foreign service and other public international services, teaching, travel and tourism, and further academic study.
