The Chinese Studies and History BA at the University of Sheffield is a dual honors course that enables students to develop an in-depth understanding of the Chinese language, culture, and society in conjunction with a broad and detailed perspective on history. Combining these subjects allows students to gain a unique skill set in language proficiency as well as in historical analysis, evaluation, and contextualization. Course Content: The course carries a duration of four years which includes a year abroad at one of the university's partner institutions in China or Taiwan. In the first year, students are introduced to modern and traditional Chinese culture and society, and begin learning Mandarin. The History component of the course covers a wide range of periods from the medieval to the modern era, using a variety of sources.
