The BSc Biomedical Science with Industrial Placement Year programme at the University of Sheffield provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the human body at the molecular, cellular, organ, and system level. This course offers an opportunity for students to spend a year in industry, which makes them ready for their future careers. Course Content: The course involves the study of structure and function of the human body, spanning from molecules, cells, tissues, organs to the systems. Students will have hands-on laboratory experience and opportunities to undertake independent research projects, with the added bonus of an industrial placement year to gain practical industry experience. Key Modules: Some of the major modules included in the study programme are Molecular Science, Neurophysiology, Cell Communication, Pharmacology, Genetics, Cell Biology, and Physiological Modelling. The third year is devoted to an Industrial Placement, which provides students with valuable work experience. Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol). Future Careers: The course can lead to a wide range of careers in the science and non-science sectors. This includes laboratory-based roles in research or hospital laboratories, health and safety, marketing, sales and advertising, as well as management and finance in biotech industries.
