The MSc Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries course at Plymouth University is specifically designed to provide you with the vital skills necessary to address the challenges presented by fisheries development, fisheries-based livelihoods, and coastal communities. This is a multidisciplinary program that explores the scientific, economic, legal, cultural, and geographical factors that influence the sustainable development of the industry.Course Content: The program is made up of three stages: the first two provide a solid understanding of topical issues and advanced approaches in sustainable aquaculture and fisheries. The final stage is an independent research project where students can analyse issues that are important to them. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, fisheries biology, aquaculture systems, marine resource management, and sustainable seafood and fisheries science.Key Modules: Some of the key modules include overview of fisheries and aquaculture, population dynamics & fisheries assessments, aquaculture systems, sustainable fishery development, seafood provision from aquaculture, and seafood provision from capture fisheries.Accreditations: This program has been accredited by the Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM). The affiliation with IFM grants students one year's free membership of the IFM, benefitting from their networking and further training opportunities.Future Careers: The course prepares you for a variety of roles within the seafood production industry, marine conservation, fisheries departments, multinational food companies, international organizations, national government departments, and NGOs.
