MSc Physician Associate Studies

The MSc Physician Associate Studies at the University of Plymouth is a full-time, two-year postgraduate course aimed at graduates with a background in biological or health sciences. It is a highly intensive, clinically focused programme that equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become competent Physician Associates in the UK. The course combines classroom-based teaching, clinical skills labs, and clinical placements.Course Content: The MSc Physician Associate Studies course comprises of a mix of biological and social sciences and emphasizes both the medical knowledge and practical skills needed to work as a physician associate. It involves a considerable amount of independent study, in addition to scheduled teaching hours. The teaching methodology comprises of problem-based learning, lectures, simulation, and clinical placements. Students are exposed to various clinical settings, which include general hospitals, mental health facilities, and general practices throughout the South West of England.Key Modules: The curriculum consists of two modules, Clinical Skills for the Physician Associate and Clinical Theory for the Physician Associate. These are spread over two stages, Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 focuses on developing the medical knowledge and clinical skills required for the PA role in primary and secondary care. Stage 2 concentrates on refining these skills and knowledge further, whilst enhancing the student's ability to work as part of a multi-professional team.Accreditations: The course is accredited by Health Education England (HEE) and the Faculty of Physician Associates at the Royal College of Physicians.Future Careers: After completing the MSc in Physician Associate Studies, graduates can work in a wide variety of clinical settings, playing a crucial role in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients.
