BSc (Hons) Ocean Science

The BSc Ocean Science course offered by the University of Plymouth provides in-depth learning in oceanography as well as complementary practical skills in small boat handling, first aid, and ocean survival. With an emphasis on field and laboratory work, the course makes use of the geographical advantage provided by the South West coast, allowing students to gain significant hands-on experience. Course Content: The course delves into areas such as coastal processes, marine renewable energy, climatology, oceanographic data analysis, marine pollution, and biological interactions in the sea. It also includes compulsory, optional, and suggested fieldwork activities. Key Modules: While the key modules may vary depending upon the route chosen by the student, the course includes modules like Discovering Oceanography, Ocean Science in Society, Oceans and Climate, Biological and Chemical Oceanography, and Ocean Science Enterprise Project among others. Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) as meeting the academic requirement, in part, for Chartered Marine Scientist (CMarSci).
