BDS Dental Surgery

The BDS Dental Surgery course at the University of Plymouth is a five-year programme aimed at students who wish to establish a career in the field of dental surgery. The course provides students with a solid foundation in the basic medical sciences, as well as the necessary dental clinical skills. Course Content: The curriculum for the BDS Dental Surgery is intense and diverse, covering knowledge and skills that span various aspects of dental surgery. The first two years focus on teaching core medical sciences and clinical skills, followed by patient treatments in various specialities of dentistry in subsequent years. The course follows an integrated spiralling curriculum, where topics are revisited at different levels of complexity and in different contexts as you progress, reinforcing what you have learned.Key Modules: The key modules in the course include Oral Biology, Oral and Dental Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, Oral disease, Professionalism and Ethics, and Restorative Dentistry. Moreover, the curriculum also incorporates case discussions, clinical demonstrations and problem-based learning.Accreditations: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree. The program is accredited by the General Dental Council (GDC) and prepares students to sit for the GDC’s registration examination. Future Careers: Passing the BDS Dental Surgery program allows students to register as a dentist with the General Dental Council.
