BA (Hons) Social Work

The BA Social Work course at Plymouth University is an undergraduate degree that is aimed at equipping students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in the social work sector. The full-time course focuses on understanding the complex issues faced by individuals and communities, and preparing students to provide necessary support and interventions.Course Content: This course is comprised of a blend of academic and practical training. Students will engage with social work theories, legislation and ethics, while also having the opportunity to participate in practice placements. The course takes a rights-based approach, allowing students to explore various forms of discrimination and oppression.Key Modules: The key modules covered in the course include: Understanding Social Work, Social Work Law and Policy, Social Work Practice Learning 1 and 2, Research Methods and Dissertation, and Personal and Professional Development. Some of these modules are taught in the first and second years, while others like the dissertation and professional development modules, are completed in the final year.Accreditations: On completion of the BA Social Work course, students will have met the national requirements for entry into the social work profession as set out by the Social Work England Professional Standards. Future Careers: Graduates of this course will be equipped to pursue careers as professional social workers.
