The MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering course at the University of Southampton is a four-year integrated master’s degree, offering students advanced study options in electrical and electronic engineering systems. The programme is aimed at students who are interested in fields such as materials science, communications, advanced electronic systems, and the principles behind renewable and smart energy grids. Course Content: During the course, students will gain a solid foundation in electronics, electricity, and measurement, before progressing to more advanced subjects such as computer processors, renewable energy systems, and digital communication systems. The course curriculum also covers designing and building their electronic systems, creating their software, and completing extended, independent projects.Key Modules: Some of the key modules include Electronic Materials and Devices in Year 1, Energy Generation, Conversion and Distribution in Year 2, and Advanced Digital Design in Year 3. For the final year, students will undertake a double-module project, and will have options to choose from a wide range of advanced modules such as Power Device, Electric Drive Technologies, Spintronics, and an introduction to Deep Learning.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council as fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer, and partly meeting the academic requirement for a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: Graduates from this degree are well-prepared for a whole host of career paths within different sectors such as general engineering, manufacturing, power and energy, communications, transport, construction, consulting, and teaching. Past graduates are known to work with companies like Amazon, Apple, Dyson, IBM, and the Ministry of Defence, among others. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
