The Modern Languages and Linguistics (French, German, Spanish) course offered by the University of Southampton is an undergraduate degree available full-time over the course of 4 years. This bespoke program provides students with the opportunity to combine their language of choice with the scientific study of language. Students will also spend a year in a country where their chosen language is spoken. Course Content: This course will enhance students’ linguistic skills in French, German, or Spanish, while also exploring how languages are structured, sound and evolve over time. The additional focus will be on understanding the cultural and societal practices of the chosen language's native speakers. Given the fourth year of the course allows students to live, work, or study in a country where their chosen language is spoken, the course also provides international exposure.Key Modules: Some of the core modules include - The Structure of English; Language Acquisition and Learnability; Semantics and Pragmatics; Phonetics; Sentential Syntax and Morphology. Depending on the language chosen, modules also consist of ones like Understanding Modern France, Contemporary German Language, Spanish and Latin American Studies, among others.
