BSc (Hons) Economics

The MSc Economics course at the University of Southampton teaches students economic theory and methodologies for practical applications. The full-time, one-year intensive course offered by the university equips students with key skills such as economic intuition, critical thinking, plus knowledge of software and empirical methods used in the private and public sectors. Course Content: This programme covers 180 credits in total, offering various modules which you can choose according to your interests. The course covers six core units and four optional units in the first two semesters, and students complete the third semester with a dissertation. The course covers major areas of macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics in detail. Key Modules: Some of the core modules include Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Economics of Financial Markets, International Trade and Economic Development and Contemporary Issues in the Global Economy. For optional modules, students can choose from offerings such as Behavioural Economics, Corporate Finance, Computational Methods in Economics, International Banking, Global Health Economics and more. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). Successful completion of the course allows students to achieve the status of Associate member of the CII.
