Beng Biomedical Engineering

The University of Southampton’s Biomedical Engineering BEng programme is tailored for students interested in applying engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. It's an ideal initiation into the exciting and rapidly expanding field of biomedical engineering.Course Content: This course is designed to provide an understanding of the body's biological systems and how to develop the technology to monitor them or make them work better. It combines laboratory work with lectures in electronics, mechanics, biology, and even business. In the first two years, students learn the basics of biomedical engineering. In the final year, they specialise in areas such as biomaterials, biomechanics, and clinical engineering.Key Modules: This undergraduate degree includes key modules such as introduction to biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering in medicine, body and biomaterials, biomechanics and bioelectronics, and biomedical signal processing.Accreditations: The Biomedical Engineering BEng degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: With this recognized qualification, graduates have moved into rewarding roles with healthcare equipment manufacturers, clinical engineering in hospitals, regulatory bodies, and research organizations.
