MSci Pharmacology

The Pharmacology MSci (Hons) is a four-year undergraduate course offered by Lancaster University. This comprehensive program covers various aspects of pharmacology, shedding light on drug development, molecular biology, and genetics, among others. It provides students with opportunities to learn from academic experts, undertake practical labs, conduct research projects, and gain industry experience through placements.Course Content: The course is designed in a manner that introduces the foundations of pharmacological knowledge in the initial years and gradually focuses on advanced topics. In the first few years, students will be introduced to essential scientific concepts, including genetics, physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, and pharmacology. In the final years, the focus will shift to specialized topics such as neuropharmacology, molecular genetics, and pharmacogenomics. Also, students will carry out a substantial research project of their own in their final year.Key Modules: Some of the key modules included in this course are Cell Structure and Function, Metabolism and its Control, Pharmacology and Physiology, Drug Discovery, Molecular Genetics, Techniques in Biomedical Sciences, Neuropharmacology, and Pharmacogenomics.Accreditations: The course is fully accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Successful completion of this course prepares students for a range of careers in pharmacology and related fields. They can work in a variety of contexts including the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, and research institutions.
