Pharmacology with Placement Year BSc Hons at Lancaster University is a four-year course that studies how drugs interact with living organisms to achieve their effects. The placement year provides excellent exposure for students to work in the industry and hone their practical skills. Course Content: The course is designed in such a way that it first equips learners with core knowledge and then gradually deepens their understanding of human physiology, the biochemic machinery of cells, and how drugs can manipulate these processes. The course modules are divided into two parts: Core and optional. The core modules help students to understand core subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry whereas optional modules provide in-depth knowledge by subjects like 'Drugs, Brain and Behaviour', 'From Bench to Bedside - Translational Neuropharmacology', 'Immunology and Disease', 'Liver and Kidney Disease', etc. Key Modules: The key modules of the course include Biology, Chemistry, Biomedicine, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience. Optional modules include topics such as 'Clinical Immunology', 'Proteins and Enzymes', 'Neurological Disorders', and 'Science and Technology in Emerging Economies' that give additional expertise and exposure to students. Future Careers: The course prepares students for a wide range of careers in areas like drug discovery, pharmaceuticals, postgraduate research, teaching, biotechnology, regulatory affairs, scientific writing, etc. Many students are also known to proceed to medical professions and do postgraduate courses and higher degrees or take up employment in the pharmaceutical industry.
