The Environmental Science Study Abroad MSci (Hons) F851/2025 course at Lancaster University is a four-year degree that integrates physical, chemical, biological, geological and geographic aspects of the environment, centred on understanding the key issues confronted by our planet. Combining fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and geographical information systems, it provides an ideal foundation to work towards a sustainable future.Course Content: The course offers a balanced scientific view of different environmental problems and potential solutions. It covers a wide range of topics, including climate change, natural hazards, managing environmental systems, and the future sustainability of our planet. The course also includes an opportunity for an international experience for a year abroad. Key Modules: The first year introduces the core topics and includes modules on Introduction to Environmental Science, Nature and Society, and the Dynamic Environment. Subsequent years deepen the understanding through modules such as Global Change, Environmental Policy and Governance, Mountain Glaciers and Landscape, and Catchment Systems. The final year includes independent research project work alongside advanced modules such as Sustainable Soil Management, Environmental Consultancy and Contaminated Land and Remediation.Future Careers: Graduates of this course can go on to work in a wide range of fields. These include environmental consultancy, utility companies, local and national government, regulatory agencies and environmental protection. Others move into research or education or work for environmental pressure groups.
