The Biomedicine (Study Abroad) BSc (Hons) C709 at Lancaster University is a comprehensive course that helps students understand how the human body functions in health and disease. It provides students with opportunities to learn about the full range of human diseases with a primary focus on improving human health. The course offers the opportunity to study abroad for a year in a university in North America, Asia, or Australia. Course Content: This course covers critical aspects of Biomedicine, such as how the genome affects health and disease, how new therapies are developed and used, as well as understanding chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Students will get the opportunity to develop practical laboratory skills, which include gene cloning, protein engineering, drug development, and molecular diagnosis methods. Key Modules: In the first year, the modules cover foundational science focused on human health and disease. In the second year, students will study modules in tumour biology, pharmacology, medical microbiology, and clinical anatomy. The final year modules include those on human pathology, human toxicology, medical sciences, neurobiology, psychiatrics and ageing. Students can also choose to undertake a placement module.Future Careers: The course can lead to careers in medical research in universities, hospitals, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
