The Theatre and Creative Writing (Placement Year) BA Hons at Lancaster University is a unique course that allows you to immerse yourself in a vibrant literary culture – reading, writing and discussing great literature – while enjoying the artistic freedom of the theatre. You can explore a variety of theatrical works and styles while developing your writing skills across a range of form and genres.Course Content: This course combines both Theatre and Creative Writing. In your first year, you’ll study writing, narrative and dramaturgy, and have the choice to study Introduction to Creative Writing, as well as Introduction to Theatre Studies. In second and third year, you will further your understanding of creative writing theory and practice, and deepen your knowledge of various Theatre forms, performances and styles. You can choose to undertake a placement year in the third year, enhancing your employability skills and gaining valuable workplace experience.Key Modules: Introduction to Creative Writing (Fiction, Screenwriting and Poetry), Introduction to Theatre Studies, The Slave Trade and its Abolition, Writing the Supernatural, Transnational Theatre, Challenging the Canon. Future Careers: This course sets you up for success in a range of fields such as journalism, publishing, marketing, public relations, copywriting and communications.
