The Theatre and Chinese Studies BA (Hons) is a multidisciplinary course offered by Lancaster University. It combines the study of contemporary China with the theory and practice of theatre, providing students with a unique and integrated experience across the arts and humanities. It enables students to develop advanced level foreign language skills while studying a wide range of topics.Course Content: The course content is divided into theoretical, practical, and language training components. In the theatre half, students are introduced to a range of practices and theories, including theatre making, textual analysis, and the history of theatrical forms. Meanwhile, in the Chinese half of the course, students learn Mandarin, receiving comprehensive training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Additionally, they study topics such as Chinese society, media, culture, politics, and history.Key Modules: The key modules in the theatre curriculum include: Making Theatre, Theatre Studies, and Engaging in Theatre Practice. As for the Chinese studies, the modules include: Chinese Culture and Society, Modern China: from the Opium Wars to the Present Day, and Chinese Language Oral Skills.Future Careers: The course prepares students for future careers in industries such as arts and entertainment, media and journalism, teaching and education, translation and interpreting, and international relations.
