BA (Hons) Global Religions and Philosophy

The Global Religions and Philosophy BA (Hons) programme at Lancaster University is a course that offers students the opportunity to investigate the big philosophical questions about truth, ethics, reality and knowledge while also exploring religions from around the world. This programme is beneficial to students interested in religion, philosophy, history, culture, sociology, and ethics. Course Content: The course content in the first year introduces students to key philosophical ideas and texts, and also gives an overview of major religious traditions and cultures. From the second year onwards, students can choose more specialised modules that suit their interests such as philosophy of mind, bioethics, philosophy of religion, Buddhism, Judaic traditions, Islam, and Asian religions. The final year allows for a dissertation on a topic chosen by the student.Key Modules: The key modules in Year 1 include Introduction to Philosophy and The Beginnings of Philosophy. In Year 2, the key modules are Philosophy of Mind, Intermediate Logic, Ethics, and Philosophy of Religion. In Year 3, students choose from a wide range of modules including Asian Religions, Judaism, and Religions in Contemporary Britain. Future Careers: After graduation, students are equipped for careers in a variety of fields such as education, the charity sector, social work, the civil service, the media industry, and business due to the transferable skills acquired from the course like critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, research, and project management.
