The Design Study Abroad BA (Hons) course at Lancaster University is a 4-year programme that gives students the unique opportunity to spend the second year studying design at a partner institution abroad. This enables students to broaden their design perspective by experiencing different approaches to design in a different cultural context. Course Content: The first year introduces students to key ideas and practices in Design. They will investigate what design is, why it is valuable, what designers do, and how they think. These studies begin to develop understandings of what design is, and to develop key skills in areas such as digital tools and techniques, visualisation and ideation, materials and fabrication, and cultural and contextual research. After the second year abroad, students return to Lancaster for their third and final year, where they continue to develop their design skills and understandings through live projects, professional practice, and the development of a major project in their final year.Key Modules: The programme year-by-year includes Design 101, Design Studies 101, Digital tools and techniques, International Year, and Design Practice and Profession.Accreditations: The course is accredited by Lancaster University, a renowned institution that is ranked within the top ten places to study Art and Design in the UK (Complete University Guide 2020).Future Careers: Graduates with a Design degree from Lancaster are creative, innovative, entrepreneurial and critical, all of which are traits valued both within the design industries and beyond.
