The Architecture (Placement Year) BA (Hons) at Lancaster University is a dynamic course offering students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of architectural design with a year in industry, giving them practical and professional exposure. The course incorporates core principles of architecture with cutting-edge techniques and technology to equip students with the necessary skills to excel in the industry. Course Content: This course offers a solid grounding in architectural history, theory, and technology, in addition to innovative modules. It is designed to give students an understanding of the world we live in and to heighten their ability to think spatially. Sustainability and architectural design are also strongly emphasized. The course includes both compulsory and optional modules and offers a placement year that provides professional workplace skills and experience. Key Modules: Some of the compulsory modules throughout the course include Analogue and Digital Drawing Practice, Architecture and Urbanism, and Technology and Material Practice. An array of optional modules also exists such as Heritage & Conservation Practice, Cities and Energy, and Architecture Placement Module. Accreditations: The course is in the process of seeking Prescription by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and validation by The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which would create a pathway to become a registered Architect in the UK after further personal study. Future Careers: Upon completion of the course, students can pursue careers in architectural practice, architectural history, urban design, housing policy and planning, construction, and set and production design for film and television.
