The MA Games Arts course at the University for the Creative Arts is a year-long program which is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the art of video games, allowing their creativity to flourish in a technically challenging environment. In addition to developing the skills needed for a career in this ever-evolving field, the course stimulates independent learning and innovative thinking. Course Content: The program is designed around practice-led research, encompassing a wide range of approaches to game design, from artistic and commercial to indie. Students will explore the cultural significance of games and engage in discussions about the aesthetics and purpose of games. Key areas include game design, art asset creation and prototype development, focussing on a synthetic officer-led design methodology. Key Modules: The four main modules underpinning this course include Contextual Studies, Creative Economies, Project and Practice Work, and Independent Project. These are supplemented with option modules offering an exploration of ancillary skills like marketing, entrepreneurship, interactive narrative and digital aesthetics. Future Careers: This course prepares the students for various careers in the gaming industry, such as Level Designer, Game Artist, Games Designer, Game Developer, Game Tester or Games Animator.
