The BA (Hons) Jewellery & Silversmithing course from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is a hands-on, project-led course that allows students to explore traditional skills in distinctive and innovative ways. Students are equipped with a wide range of skills within the crafts of jewellery and silversmithing and encouraged to develop their ideas through an independent approach to design processes.Course Content: The programme focuses on developing technical ability within a wide range of techniques and processes. It offers a solid foundation in traditional skills in conjunction with the exploration of the latest digital practices. Students are encouraged to develop their critical understanding of the relationship between making and designing within the contemporary crafts arena. Alongside practical work, students develop a critical understanding of visual and professional awareness through visually recording and documenting their work.Key Modules: The course is split into three stages, each building upon the previous one. First Year introduces students to the fundamental aspects of Jewellery & Silversmithing design. Second Year consolidates and expands your knowledge and skills while allowing professional practice engagement. In the Final Year, students undertake Independent Research and a Major Project, allowing them to develop their own creative voice and visual language.Accreditations: The course is recognised by the Chartered Society of Designers (CSD).Future Careers: The course prepares students for a range of career possibilities such as studio jewellers, designers for industry, or progression to postgraduate study.
