The BA Interior Design course at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) aims to equip students with the creative design skills and technical knowledge needed to produce innovative solutions for interior spaces. It encourages students not only to consider a building's aesthetic appeal but also to understand how spatial design can affect our daily lives and how we interact with our surroundings.Course Content: From the first year, students are introduced to the theoretical, technical, and professional aspects of interior design through a series of project-based activities. The course also covers areas such as 2D and 3D techniques, architectural communication, materials and methods of construction, environmental and sustainable issues, as well as the history and theory of interior design. By the third year, students will be expected to undertake a self-directed major project.Key Modules: The course consists of three stages - each academic year constitutes a stage. Stage 1 includes Spatial Exploration, Communicating Architecture, and Recording & Representing Space; Stage 2 covers Multiplicity in Practice, Material & Virtual Culture, and Collaborative & Contestable Practices; and Stage 3 houses Rehearsal & Performance, Dissertation, and Final Major Project in Interior Design.Accreditations: UCA's BA Interior Design course is accredited by the Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) and delivers the practical skills and theory that are essential to the role of an interior designer in any sector.Future Careers: Graduates can expect a variety of career opportunities in areas such as interior design consultancies, architectural practices, exhibitions and events, TV and film set design, and retail design.
