The BA (Hons) Design for Theatre & Screen course offered by University for the Creative Arts (UCA) serves as a launchpad for a career in production design for TV, film, and theatre. This course will enable students to learn from professional-stage and set-designers, model-makers, and prop-makers while gaining insights into a variety of design approaches. Course Content: The course integrates theoretical, practical, and professional insights enabling students to develop a broad understanding of design principles. The students will be trained to understand the demands of the industry, develop technical skills and explore production design, scenic painting, prop making, model making, and costume across a range of contexts in theatre and screen including TV, film, opera, festivals, and events. Key Modules: Some of the key modules include Concept & Design, Design for Musical Theatre, Design for Comedy, and Design for Drama. Students will also have the chance to experiment with digital media and a physical approach to designing for music videos and live events as well as exploring more commercial aspects of the industry through promotional and advertising sets/events and pop-up experiences. Future Careers: The alumni from this course have a strong record of employment in a range of roles in theatre, television, film, festivals and events.
