The Criminology and Criminal Investigations MSc at Cardiff Metropolitan University is a comprehensive, part-time course aimed at students wishing to engage in critical criminological thinking and achieve a professional understanding of criminal behaviour and justice system responses. The program offers a high standard of teaching using practical, professional and research skills. Course Content: The course is designed to help students understand and apply criminological theories towards policies and strategies implemented by criminal justice agencies. Incorporating elements of social sciences, humanities, and law, the course provides a broad understanding of the social, legal and political context of crime, victimization and responses to crime, and criminal behaviour. Key Modules: The course is comprised of modules covering: Theories & Perspectives in Criminology; Research Methods; Victims & Victimology; Policing & Society; and a dissertation titled 'The Investigative Function.' Facets of the criminal justice system, probation, risk assessment and management, theories of crime and deviance, and youth justice are some of the key areas that the course focuses on.Accreditations: The course accreditation is yet to be finalised; however, it is taught by experienced practitioners and highly-qualified academic staff. Future Careers: Many of our alumni have explored career opportunities in a wide range of settings, such as the criminal justice system including police, probation, prisons, Youth justice, community safety departments, crime reduction units, and local authorities.
